{"id":46,"date":"2011-02-15T08:16:44","date_gmt":"2011-02-15T08:16:44","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/jigsawhair.co.nz\/wordpress\/?page_id=46"},"modified":"2011-04-19T23:00:13","modified_gmt":"2011-04-19T23:00:13","slug":"post-operative-instructions","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.hornbydental.co.nz\/?page_id=46","title":{"rendered":"Post-operative Instructions"},"content":{"rendered":"<h1>Instructions to Patients Following Extractions<\/h1>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>Day of surgery<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Avoid:<\/p>\n<ul style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n<li>Sucking or interfering with the wound.<\/li>\n<li>Hot drinks and rinsing the mouth.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Pain Relief:<\/p>\n<ul style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n<li>Take painkillers according to the instructions on the packet as required.<\/li>\n<li>Nurofen (Ibuprofen) seems to work the best but is only for those who don\u2019t get tummy upsets with anti-inflammatory drugs. Definitely no more than 6 tablets in any 24 hours.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Bleeding:<\/p>\n<ul style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n<li>A slight ooze can be expected. If there is more bleeding, apply pressure with a gauze (supplied) for at least 5 minutes. Please contact us if you are concerned about the amount of bleeding.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>Following Day<\/strong><\/p>\n<ol style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n<li>Begin mouth rinses using \u00bd teaspoon salt in a glass of very warm water. Hold in mouth without rinsing. Do this 2 or 3 times daily until you are able to brush that area normally again.<\/li>\n<li>Continue to take painkillers as required.<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\">If you find that painkillers are not working and it has been 2-3 days since the extraction then you may have a DRY SOCKET. This is very painful but easily fixed by the dentist placing a dressing in the socket.
